Why I've left Instagram

I’ve dedicated this page to showing where you can follow me in the future and why I have chosen to cease all activity on my Instagram account.
Why I joined Instagram
During February 2016. I was hearing a lot about Instagram. Before I actually began to use Instagram I never really liked the concept of only sharing photos as I had only used Twitter and Facebook and I really enjoyed the concept of text posts. When I first created my Instagram account, I enjoyed following the people I knew. It was only fall 2016 that I started to post on Instagram under the name “Fenix Azin”. During this time, I experienced moderate success. I also found a lot of my real friends on Instagram and all in all it was an okay experience.
Beginning of the end
I would post all throughout 2017 and 2018, but in 2019 I would realize many things I didn’t like about the platform. First was the meme content. Now yes, I know Instagram users have stolen memes, but that ship has sailed so many times and frankly, I really don’t care. My issue resides in the shift in memes and meme accounts. Other than some of the very well known YouTube shitposters I followed, a good amount of the memes I began seeing on Instagram more often had very childish and boring humor, I was only finding maybe one meme I liked a day. But this isn’t what really made disappointed me about the platform.
Oversaturation of drama
One thing I never really noticed during the 2 years I had used Instagram was the sheer amount of annoying drama. Whether it was about celebrity’s relationships, “public freakouts”, drama at my school, or people trying to start something. Drama is a huge scene on this platform and it can get quite annoying. This is a big reason I’m leaving this platform as this drama is really dumb and annoying and it’s not what I’d like to surround my social media life with.
The last straw
June 25th, 2019 was the day when the popular and inspiring YouTube livestreamer “Etika” was announced to be found dead. Authorities found his body in the East River on June 24th after responding to a call about a person floating in the water near South Street Seaport in New York. I saw condolences from popular and unpopular people alike on all of my social media including Discord, Twitter, Reddit and YouTube. But not one post on Instagram. I would accept the that no one knew about Etika, if it weren’t for the fact I was following people that talked about YouTube news in the past and had upwards of 2,000 followers. This truly showed me how much this community can either be unaware of the things happening in the world, or how they just might not care. This truly made me feel disappointed in the platform and it’s the reason I’m ceasing activity on my account.
What does this mean for my Instagram account?
I will be keeping my account around, and I will only be responding to DMs and group chats from my friends.
It just don't stop!
This is a new update. But mentioning the drama and also about Etika, I thought this should not be left out. Early in 2020 NBA player “Kobe Bryant” died in a helicopter crash. Now, what would be the sensible thing to do. Respect and remember the great basketball star, right? Well Instagram decided to make a meme out of it with the top text mentioning Kobe Bryant and the video clip of a helicopter crashing in GTA V. So, I guess it’s either they ignore the death of a great person, or make fun of it. This just goes to show why I left this platform.
